Fire Department Information

The Borough of Cresskill Fire Department members are committed to saving lives, protecting property, and improving the quality of life for our residents and visitors, by providing rapid and reliable services in all emergency and non-emergency activities. The Cresskill Fire Department works diligently to keep our residents and businesses safe from harm.  Our members are always training to keep current on all aspects of firefighting and EMS operations.  The threat of fire, terrorism, hazardous materials spills/leaks, water rescue, search and rescue are just some of the few services we provide to a population of approximately 8,900 residents residing in an area of 2.074 square miles. The devastating effects of these threats on life and property are of major importance and priority for the Cresskill Fire Department. To address these concerns, Cresskill firefighters respond in a rapid and safe manner with occupant safety and rescue of endangered citizens as our most important mission priority.

The Cresskill Fire Department has been a leader in providing outstanding public fire safety education at all schools as well as to community groups.  Using a variety of teaching methods, our firefighters teach fire safety, fire prevention, fire extinguisher procedures and conduct fire drills.  Our goal is to make our community a safe place in which to live and play.  Educating our citizens on how they can their homes and surroundings safe and teaching them what they should do in case of an emergency are very effective ways to achieve this goal. All these services are provided from one main fire headquarters centrally located within the Borough of Cresskill. The personnel of department consist of one (1) Chief of Department, one (1) Assistant Chief, one (1) Captain, two (2) Lieutenants, and approximately 16 Firefighters. In the calendar year of 2021, the Cresskill Fire Department responded to 1,342 calls for service.

In addition to fire suppression, the Cresskill Fire Department is responsible for providing the highest level of emergency patient care to our residents and visitors. In 2015, Cresskill E.M.S. was disbanded and then became a Division of the Cresskill Fire Department. The Fire Department EMS is a fire-based New Jersey State Department of Health licensed ambulance service that provides the highest level of patient care. We are the only licensed paid ambulance in the Northern Valley area. Our EMS Division has grown into a highly sophisticated emergency medical operation with three ambulances.  This service is a critical community asset and the most efficient response system for local emergency care.
