Mayors Memo - USACE Update
August 31, 2023
Dear Cresskill residents,
I wanted to keep you updated on a topic that is very important to the Mayor and Council. In a continuous effort to permanently resolve the flooding issues and challenges we are experiencing, Borough Officials met with the United States Army Corps of Engineers and representatives of the NJ Department of Environmental Protection yesterday, August 30, 2023.
Borough Administrator Lavin, Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Ulshoefer, DPW Superintendent Noseworthy, and Borough Engineer Azzolina then escorted the United States Army Corps of Engineers and the NJ Department of Environmental Protection representatives through the East Hill neighborhood and then along Piermont Road, which encompasses the surrounding streets, to not only show them flood prone areas, but also where we believe the flooding appears to originate. We then continued to the Cresskill Middle/High School grounds, following the Tenakill on Grant A venue and then over to the Cresskill Recreation Corridor on Third Street.
We are still in the feasibility study analysis phase on our request for help; once approved, a plan will be presented to the Borough which is estimated to be sometime in the spring of 2025. We were also assured funding is available. Unfortunately, this study and process is extremely time-consuming at no fault of ours. We will provide you with additional information and updates as they become available.
Sincerely,
Benedict Romeo
Mayor
